Path updates iOS, Android apps with tighter security features

Path, the social networking app that was at the center of a user privacy firestorm not too long ago, has released updates for both the iOS and Android versions of its app that include greater security for user data. Version 3.1.1 of the apps now hashes user contact data before it is transmitted to Path's servers. This anonymizes the data so that if it is intercepted, it can't be easily decoded. The anonymized data includes last names, phone numbers, email addresses, Twitter handles, and Facebook IDs. Path says that it collects this data to connect users with others that they know that are using the service. You can download the new version of Path for free from the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store now.
