The Night Sky does this by using your location data provided by the GPS and compass built in to your device. It then cross references your location data with its inbuilt map of the sky and overlays the stars, planets, galaxies, constellations and satellites names on your screen. This update brings the following enhancements:

? Automatic sky tracking comes to the iPod touch 4G! We have worked some more magic and have created automatic compass tracking on a device which does not have a digital compass! We did this by utilising the iPod touch 4G Gyroscope! Just align the sky to your view, and with some magic, The Night Sky will give you automatic sky tracking just like on the iPhone and iPad! Just hold your iPod to the sky and prepare to be amazed!

? Improved red visibility night mode. Now all of the graphics turn red rather than a red layer being overlaid. The screen is also automatically dimmed when night vision is enabled. This mode will enable your vision to adjust to the screen and The Night Sky above you very quickly when stargazing.

? Improved graphics for the iPad. iPad users will now benefit from higher resolution graphics.

? Send a magical gift to someone. You can now send The Night Sky as a gift to anyone with an e-mail address. Pass some of the magic on to friends with the inbuilt 'Send as a Gift' feature!

? User interface enhancements.

? Improved icon.
