Android 4.0 ICS now on 2.9 percent of Android devices, 2.3 Gingerbread still dominant

The latest figures from Google's Android platform distribution statistics show that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is now used on 2.9 percent of the Android devices in the world. Android 4.0 was launched back in October of last year, but until recently, it was only available for a handful of smartphones and tablets and accounted for a mere 1 percent of all Android devices in use. HTC and Samsung galaxy have begun delivering official Android 4.0 updates to a number of their handsets, which seems to be the reason for the uptick in adoption rates. Android  2.3 Gingerbread is still the dominant version in use today, with 63.7 percent of Android devices in use running it.
